The magic of the arena

At Coastal Therapeutic Riding Program, a lesson is never just a lesson.

It’s a child who begins to believe in themselves. A rider working for months toward a goal that looks small to others and enormous to their family. A moment of confidence, independence, or joy they may never have imagined.

Sometimes progress is loud. More often it’s quiet: one lesson, one stride, one smile at a time. A rider reaches out to their horse. A rider walks out taller than they walked in.

Last year, that added up to 1,796 lessons and program service encounters. Each one was a person showing up, trying something hard, and discovering what they could do.

The connection that makes it work

None of this happens alone. It takes instructors with skill and patience, volunteers who give their time and hearts, and families who trust us with the people they love. And it takes our horses, who meet every rider exactly where they are. They’re not just part of our program. They’re our partners.

So many more people need us

Every year, more individuals and families reach out than we can serve. Some are children. Some are adults. Some are veterans looking for a place to feel grounded. With your help, we can say yes to more of them.
